Truth from a Christian Perspective

What is the truth? It can be answered from a philosophical point of view which is a lengthy discussion. But how sure are we that the truth we learned is the "real truth." Our understanding of the truth, more often than not, is based on the beliefs and practices we learned when we are growing up. I've learned that sometimes it is good to question those beliefs and practices or understanding of truth from our point of view. Let's ask ourselves, how does this knowledge affect me? Is it a healthy way of thinking? Does it build relationships? I would like to share a Biblical narrative from the life of Jesus where it illustrates this point. Please read Mark 12 before we continue. Jesus was tested three times on that passage from three different groups of people - Pharisees, Sadducees, and Law. If you will think about it, these people are the best thinkers of their time, respected in their community, highly esteemed so to speak. But apparently, they don't have an under

How to Achieve your Goals?

To help you achieve goals in NLP way, we have to engage our unconscious mind. If we'll be able to program our unconscious part of the mind toward success, it will change the behavior that will bring us to where we want to go. This is different in usual goal setting because no matter how careful we are in crafting our plans, the unconscious part of our mind can get in our way of achieving our goals if not properly trained. First of all, we have to understand that our unconscious mind doesn't accept negative instruction. So, to influence our minds, we have to state our goals in a positive way. So, as an example, instead of saying I don't want to pay rent anymore, you can say that I want to buy my own house. The second is that we have to be specific with our goals. The more specific our instruction at our unconscious mind, the more specific our mind in getting results. Going back to our example, you can be more specific by saying that you want a big house with three bedroo

NLP 101: What is NLP?

Have you heard about Neuro-Linguistic Programming? Do you know its purpose? NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming . The aim of this study is to improve the quality of thinking and life in all aspects, such as relationships and career. Neuro refers to the mind. We will study how the mind works, not only on the conscious level but on the unconscious level as well. Linguistic talks about the language we will use to communicate with our mind. Finally, the word programming refers to how we are going to condition the mind according to what we want to achieve. This can be done through coaching with the objective of changing or reinforcing the values of the client. Another way is through one on one therapy sessions to identify internal conflicts and applying techniques that will help remove those conflicts. Most NLP techniques are directed at the unconscious part of the mind. NLP is gaining popularity because many people appreciate how fast and effective the therapy sessions as comp

Relationship Responsibilities in the Context of Marriage

How is your marriage? What was your reason that you get married? If you're getting married, what is your reason that you want to get married? Take some time to think about this, then read on. Is your reason is that you want your needs to get filled? There may be voids in your life that you want to get filled. Or could it be that you want to give yourself to someone with the purpose of building a strong and healthy relationship? Notice the difference. The first one is intended to focus on self while the other one is focused on your partner. Just recently, my wife and I attended a marriage seminar with lots of reflective questions that were discussed in breakout sessions. There are many NLP principles that I find relevant in the context of marriage. I will discuss the top three most important principles in this article. First of all, love, in the context of marriage, can be defined as a personal commitment to another individual. Why commitment? Most people defined love as a romantic

Is the NLP Manipulative?

Is Neuro Linguistic-Programming (NLP) manipulative? To put us together on one page, first, let’s answer the question, what is NLP? My personal definition is that NLP is a body of knowledge, a collection of concepts and techniques, aimed at helping individuals reach their full potential. Personal issues, unhelpful thinking patterns, and emotional conflicts can be identified and solved using many techniques applied at the subconscious level or by educating the individual at high-level values. In one on one coaching or therapy sessions, the thinking patterns of individuals are being studied to identify beliefs that cause the personal growth of an individual to stagnate. There are, however, misconceptions that NLP is manipulative. This is due to a lack of understanding of the intention, the techniques, and how it is being used. NLP is principle-based. The training is focused on a healthy attitude and responsibility toward relationships. As a doctor to a physically sick person, NLP practiti

Respect of Other Person's Worldview

If we have differences in religious belief will that be okay with you? If my political view is different from yours is it still okay with you? Are you going to try to prove that you are correct and I am wrong? Will you consider me a bad person? Can we live together peacefully? Can we still exchange ideas in a mature and respectful manner? In general, what can you say about our culture on the way we express our faith and political views? Do you feel better when you prove that you are right? Do you feel better when after voicing your opinion no one can say an idea that is contrary to yours? This article may change the way you relate to others, including the way you talk to others and the way you post to social media. We must understand that we have different views of the world because of differences in how we filter information - the things we see, hear, or feel. We normally distort, delete, generalize information based on our past experiences and values. Because of these processes, we c

Towards and Away From Motivation

Do you tend to procrastinate? Have you asked yourself why? Motivation causes us to move from one state to another. That means we want to progress from the present state to the ideal future state. To bridge the gap in-between those states requires action. However, not all ideal future states were realized. You might experience that as you progress toward that future state, which is your goal, you began to procrastinate. The problem lies in what motivates us. There are two kinds of motivation. The first one is called away from motivation. To understand this, think of an emergency situation where you have to respond immediately. Surely, you will move really fast because it is an emergency. That is the away motivation. There is an idea in your mind, that propels you to action. It will make us move really fast. One example is when you touch a hot stove, unconsciously you move away very quickly. Now let's discuss the towards motivation. This is different from the first one. The towards m

The NLP Presupposition

We tend to put labels on people. We usually define people by their religious beliefs, by their ethnicity, gender, role, and title. In doing so, we have in mind an idea of the kind of person we are talking with by these labels and definitions that we attached to them. Before we continue, we have to define the term presupposition. Literally, the presupposition is an assumption. In the context of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), it is our assumption on a person, and the healthy way to look at a person is to see them uncritically and without labels (like what we’ve discussed above). The worst label we can put on people is by their behavior. We may say that “you are a bad person” where in fact what we meant is that he is doing something bad. But we must remember the basic principle on NLP presupposition is that people are not their behavior. Though a person at times may choose to behave in a certain way, bad behavior for example. If it comes a time that a person who is doing bad behavior

Concrete Authority Versus Abstract Authority

This discussion is one of the most powerful concepts of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). This can be life-changing if applied to oneself. Concrete authority relies on recognition from another person or an organization that is well known in the field of practice. It is formal and structured. This may come in a form of certification after undergoing training or completing a course. On the other hand, abstract authority is attained by taking responsibility for a particular outcome by ensuring the success of a particular endeavor. To give you an example, I observed that most successful people, referring to self-made millionaires or tycoons, rely heavily on abstract authority. Many of them are college drop-outs but one day decided to start a business and didn't give up in the process of accumulating wealth. The problem with our educational system is that most curriculums are geared toward becoming an employee. It is not bad, but it limits the capacity of individuals to achieve more

The NLP Cause and Effect Equation

The fundamental tenet of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is being responsible for one's own actions and thoughts and so is the outcome. Positive action yields positive results. This is different from the Law of Attraction. You cannot achieve results by thinking about it while doing nothing. It is just daydreaming. You may think, however, that there are things in life that we don’t have control of, that is no longer our responsibility. As Lucille Ball said, “responsibility is the ability to respond.” This is a paradigm shift from being a victim of circumstances to taking charge of one’s life. This reminds me of the Parable of Talents as found in the Bible in the fifth chapter of the Book of Matthew. Each of us was given figurative talents (gifts, abilities, skills, resources, ideas, etc.) at the end of our lives, when we face God he will ask what you did with your talents. I believe it encompasses everything, as each of us has a unique purpose in life, we also have corresponding
